DDL's 8th Batizado in London
In July, Danca Da Liberdade celebrated their 8th Batizado in London, with over 100 students taking part in the grading.

DDL's 1st Batizado in Jersey
Danca Da Liberdade is now firmly established in Jersey, led by Instructor Coruja and the group have just completed their first Batizado. From the 3rd - 5th July, students from DDL's London, Oxford and Colchester schools came together for a weekend of workshops, gradings and Brazilian parties.

South London's 1st Capoeira School opens!
Danca Da Liberdade now has a dedicated space for capoeira in Streatham Hill. The DDL Capoeira School has a full timetable of classes for adults and children from 3 years and above. Capoeira classes for beginners and those with experience are offered as well as samba and other dance classes. Monthly membership packages are available.

There is a fully equiped capoeira shop at the school, selling a range of capoeira and sportswear, instruments, cds, dvds and more.

The DDL Capoeira School also has a dance studio available for hire. Call 07739 973 890 or email info@ddluk.org for more information.

New Classes in Colchester and Oxford
Danca Da Liberdade now has classes in Colchester (in the Hythe Community Centre and Essex University) run by Furiosa, as well as new classes in Oxford run by Instructor Ken.

Batizado 2008 - 4th Annual Brazilian Cultural Festival
The Festival will open with the 2nd Schools Capoeira Championship, run in conjunction with the capoeira federation UINCAP. Over 600 children from schools across south London will take part in capoeira and music workshops. 80 children will then take part in the competition rounds, representing 6 schools. The championships will be adjudicated by a panel of mestres, including Mestre Naval from Capoeira Brasil and Mestre Bocao.

On Saturday 19th July, over 90 students from Danca Da Liberdade will take part in the Batizado grading ceremony at the Clapham Grand, with special guests Mestre Naval from Capoeira Brasil and Mestre Bocao. This will be followed by a full day of workshops of capoeira, samba and funana dance on Sunday 20th July.

The 2008 Brazilian Cultural Festival will culminate with the Brazilian Party, with live music from Bahia Flash, dance classes, capoeira displays and Brazilian food and drinks. Tickets can be pre-booked for all events by calling 07739 973 890 or emailing info@ddluk.org.

Batizado 2007 - 3rd Annual Brazilian Cultural Festival
The Festival will feature the 1st Batizado for Instructor Feiticeira's students in North London, including workshops and an after-party on Saturday 21st July in the Tottenham Community Sports Centre, and Mestre Guimba's 5th UK Batizado in Clapham Junction, at the Battersea Arts Centre on Sunday 22nd July. There will be a series of workshops from 10am - 1pm (for beginners and advanced, in capoeira, instrumental playing and samba dance), as well as a Brazilian Party at MishMash Bar from 7pm - 2am.

Batizado 2006 - 2nd Annual Brazilian Cultural Festival
The 4rd UK Batizado for Danca da Liberdade is almost here. The event will be held at Clapham Leisure Centre and will feature a range of performances and gradings. Guests will include Mestre Jogo De Dentro from Brazil who will be leading workshops on Sunday 12th November.

New Class in Tottenham
On the 22nd June 2006, Danca Da Liberdade opened their latest class in north London at the Tottenham, Green Centre. The class is taught by instructor Feiticiera and runs every Thursday from 8:45pm

Dance Festival
The Lambeth Schools' Dance Festival is going from strength to strength, and in March 2006 there were 400 children taking part! The participants ranged from 7 to 14 from Lambeth primary, secondary and special educational needs schools. As well as a massive capoeira session with all the children together, Danca Da Liberdade tutors also led smaller workshops of contemporary dance, breakin, street dance and maculele.

BBC Documentary
In January 2006 Danca Da Liberdade took part in the BBC3 documentary series 'Little Shopping Horrors'. The documentary followed nine-year-old Cleon - a games-obsessed boy from South London and his mother, Lorraine, who was worried that computer game brands had become an all-consuming passion for him and was concerned that the hours spent every day playing in his bedroom, meant that he did not fulfill his creative and sporting promise. In an attempt to get her son "out there, instead of sitting in front of the TV all the time" Lorraine enrolled her son in Danca Da Liberdade's youth capoeira programme, wanting to feed her son's brain "with something more interesting than just playing computer games." The results were excellent!

Capoeira Class back in Clapham

Africa Remix
On the 17th March 2004, Danca Da Liberdade were invited to perform at the opening of 'Salon Afrique', a programme of events for the South Bank Centre's Africa Remix exhibition.

Dance Festival
The annual Lambeth Schools' Dance Festival took place at the Brixton Recreation centre in March 2005. Over 100 children took part in capoeira, contemporary dance and African dance workshops, led by Danca Da Liberdade tutors Ken, Catango, Curiosa and Mestre Guimba.

Danca Da Liberdade at the Royal Festival Hall
In March 2004, children from Danca Da Liberdade's youth group gave a spectacular performance in for an audience of over 2000 people on the stage of the Royal Festival Hall, as the culmination of the annual Lambeth Schools' Music Festival. The children were supported by Mestre Guimba, and professors Claudio from Beribazu, Sanhaco from Cordao de Ouro and Polegar from Capoeira Nago.

New Capoeira Shop for 2005!
The new Danca Da Liberdade online shop is getting closer to complition. The shop will contain capoeira CDs, videos and DVDs as well as capoeira trousers, t-shirts and hoodies. There will also be a colourful range of hand crafted berimbaus.

Danca Da Liberdade Batizado 2004
The Batizado took place at the end of November in Jags Sports Center in Dulwich. The Batizado was a celebration of the hard work and training that had been done throughout the year. As well as Capoeira there was a Makulele performance from the Danca Da Liberdade students with Mestre Guimba doing his magic on the 'Atabaque' drum. There was also a Samba performance from 'As Gatinhas' and an aerial acrobatics display from Sarah Franco Alves.

Everybody had a great time and the event brought together Capoeira Masters, teachers and students from around the world each bringing their unique style of the beautiful game.

Capoeira at 'The Big Chill'
